Preparation and Administration
* Dilute D 50 W 1:1 with Normal Saline (NS) or 5% Dextrose in Water (D5W) to make D 25 W.
Note: May give up to 25% Dextrose(D25) peripherally, as slow push over 2-3 minutes.
Remarks
Note: Infusion of hypertonic dextrose solutions may cause:
Local pain, vein irritation, and tissue necrosis. Patient's blood sugar should be checked in 20-30 minutes.
