GENERAL GUIDELINES

In pediatric patients drug volume limits the amount that can be given in a single injection.
The following are general guidelines for acceptable IM injectable volumes in children.

Recommended Drug Volumes
Maximum recommended drug volumes for intramuscular injection.
If the total volume of injection exceeds these amounts, consider divided injections.
3 kg 3 kg 0.5 — 1 mL
4 kg 4 kg 0.5 — 1 mL
5 kg 5 kg 0.5 — 1 mL
PINK 6 — 7 kg 1 mL
RED 8 — 9 kg 1 mL
PURPLE 10 — 11 kg 1 mL
YELLLOW 12 — 14 kg 1 — 1.5 mL
WHITE 15 — 18 kg 1 — 1.5 mL
BLUE 19 — 23 kg 1.5 — 2 mL
ORANGE 24 — 29 kg 1.5 — 2 mL
